Byron's Drawings
Portfolio #1

Page 9

This was the first ink drawing I had done with bristol board since Florida. It was the first one I did after I arrived in Alaska.

I had been seeing a lot of local art but it really hadn't sunk into my brain yet. This was more about me playing with the ink again rather than something specific that inspired me.

The drawing began with an eye like shape nearly centered and from there the bird image grew. I had contemplated filling in the feathers but stopped and chose a background set of shapes to enhance it instead.

There was talk of solar activity and possible Northern Lights that night. Since they are created by particles hitting the Earth's magnetic field, the image of that field entered my mind and manifested itself on the paper before me.
